Rodgers is confident the job will be done on Tuesday night despite the teams poor form locally and abroad.“We only need one goal,” said Rodgers. “And we hope it will come.
“We will see whether they can (handle it). It’s quite clear-cut – we need to win the game, and it is about having that calmness and composure.
“We know we will get great support. We’ve seen it here over many years, the support that this crowd gives us is incredible.
“The players are obviously disappointed with the result (against Sunderland) but it wasn’t going to be a game with many chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take the ones that came.
“But we’ll move into the game on Tuesday night with great confidence. We’re playing at home, and no matter who we are playing, we always expect to do well here.
The Basel game is the beginning of what could be a pivotal week for the Reds, with crucial Premier League games with Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as aLeague Cup quarter-final at Bournemouth to come
“If we get the result on Tuesday, it will give us that confidence. It will mean we’ve successfully come out of that group stage, and we can put it to bed for a few months and focus on the other games.
“We know we will have to stay calm to get the result. But we’ve shown in these last four games or so that we have the ability to do so. We’re defending more compact, we’re harder to beat. Now hopefully we can get a wee bit more luck in the final third to get goals.”
