The attacker will be out of action for the rest of the year, but the ex-Bayern midfielder feels that's not necessarily a bad thing for BVB
Former Germany star Stefan Effenberg believes Marco Reus' injury problems could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Borussia Dortmund as it could scare off potential suitors.
Reus has been heavily linked with a move away from Dortmund at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid among the clubs keeping an eye on the attacker's situation.
The 25-year-old suffered an ankle injury in his side's 2-2 draw with Paderborn at the weekend that will keep him out for the remainder of 2014, yet Effenberg feels there's a positive to the Germany forward's latest physical misfortune, too.
"Who knows, Reus could now stay at Dortmund for two or three more years."
The former Borussia Monchengladbach attacker has a contract with BVB until June 2017, but has a clause in his existing deal that allows him to leave the club at the end of the season for €25 million.
Reus missed the 2014 World Cup due to injury and has already missed several games this season as well due to recurring ankle problems.
